The first day of spring

Today is officially the first day of spring. It is also our son's 27th birthday. He was born in the dawn hour of the first day of spring after a thankfully short labour in which I propped myself up on bits of furniture during contractions, and munched chocolate digestives and smoked cigarettes in between.

Yes, I was at home, and as an elderly (i.e. 36 year old) mother whose other child had been born 13 years before had been told to expect a long labour. I eventually stubbed out a final cigarette and woke my husband up on the basis that I thought we should be getting ready to go to the local hospital soon. Too late. Our son was born into my husband's hands about 30 minutes later.

His comments as the child was being born were: "It's a boy. It's definitely a boy. Oh wow. And he's got enormous goolies."

Men, dontcha love them?

Autumn

Hi girls

Well it may have been quiet, but that is possibly because I've only just found out how to sign in here again after an entire summer.

And here comes the first rain, complete with thunderstorm, which will probably knock the Internet out.

Autumn - reason to get pissed with mellow forgetfulness.
